GM Recall May Affect 1.37 Million Vehicles

Faulty Ignition Switch Leaves 13 Dead

A substantial recall could potentially affect 1.37 GM million vehicles built between 2003 – 2007. According to representatives at GM, the problem lies with faulty ignition that can switch out of the “run” position… while the car is driving. When this happens, the driver is left without power brakes, power steering, and airbags. There have been 13 deaths as a result to this ignition problem and 31 frontal crashes.

GM will notify owners of 03-07 Chevy Cobalt, Pontiac G5, Saturn Ion, Chevy HRR, Pontiac Solstice, and/or Saturn Skys should they be required to bring their vehicles in for service. The ignition switches will be replaced at no cost to the owner. According to CNN, “In the meantime, GM is advising owners to avoid having anything other than the car keys hanging on their key chain. The added weight of additional objects can make it more likely the key will turn accidentally.”
