Things were going so well until the Lions scored twice in the last minutes to beat the Cowboys. Steve Kemble has all the details in his Ride’em Cowboy Report.
Everyone was tuning in to see the showdown between the NFL’s two best receivers, the Cowboy’s Dez Bryant and the Lion’s Calvin Johnson. It was a short showdown. By halftime, Johnson had 6 touches for 156 yards and Bryant only had one catch for 5 yards. Johnson went on to have 329 yards for the whole game, which is the second most of any player in the NFL.
Dez Bryant figured out how to get the attention back on him during the game. He threw some major temper tantrums on the sidelines, even getting into the faces of Jason Whitten and Tony Romo. All cameras turned every Dez had a meltdown. His hissy fits were defended by Whitten, Romo, Jason Garrett, and Jerry Jones as “passion.” We think that maybe he shouldn’t be fussing in his teammates face if he’s the guy with one touch for 5 yards.
Perhaps we should blame all the FOX announcers for their premature jump to conclusions at the end of the game. All of the announcers had to eat their words after declaring this would be the first time in 4 years that the Cowboys would have a winning record halfway through the season. Thanks to their jinx, the Lions got those 2 touchdowns in the last 4 minutes.
Steve’s favorite tweet of the game came from ESPN’s Jason Romano:
Does anyone in the the 3 major sports find more ways to lose as dramatically as the Dallas Cowboys?
— Jason Romano (@JasonRomano) October 27, 2013
Steve’s response to Romano: No.
Next week, the Cowboys face off against the Vikings.
