Group text messages are useful for getting information across to multiple people quickly, but there is a danger in mass messaging. Sometimes we get trapped in a conversation that blows up our phone, or worse, we start a conversation not realizing other people are receiving the messages.
Tony recently sent a group text to a married couple he is friends with. A simple inquiry about plans returned a funny quip about bringing ladies back to the pimp pad from the husband. The wife was unimpressed, and the husband quickly realized that he fell into the trap of group messaging.
For those sending group texts, a great tip to keep in mind is alerting your recipients that they are in a group message. You don’t necessarily need to alert them to who is in the group, but the heads up should hopefully keep embarrassing messages out of the thread.
If you receive a group message and you want to keep your response private, back out of the group message and respond to the sender individually. The private conversation can continue without embarrassing responses from others.
