As October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it’s interesting to see all the leaps modern medicine is taking to find a cure or advanced methods of treatment. Genetic testing could help detect the risk for developing breast cancer and give more options for treatment.
We all know about Angelina Jolie’s recent double mastectomy in reaction to the results of tests that found genes that indicate a risk for breast cancer. Live Science reports that that tests for BRCA1 and BRCA2 genetic mutations are helping give women a heads up for their risk of developing breast cancer.
According to LIve Science, only 1 in 400 women have the BRCA mutations. Those numbers only account for 5-10% of breast cancers and 15% of ovarian cancers.
Still, it’s leaps and bounds like this in modern medicine that are the reason there should be more Breast Cancer Awareness!
