We Witnessed History 10-14-13

Looking ahead towards the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s passing here in Dallas, we thought we’d look back at the times when we witnessed history.

We can all remember where we were or what we were doing when we heard the news about major news events. Tony remembers where he was when Challenger exploded and when 9/11 happened. Julie was on the air broadcasting on 9/11. Tony said that his Army Ranger brother Nick had called him the night before 9/11 to tell him that he was assigned to go on a mission, but he couldn’t say where he was going. The next day was 9/11 and Tony’s phone was blowing up asking about his brother.

Tony was at the game when Emmett Smith broke the all time rushing record. A historic sporting even that Tony isn’t so proud of being present for was taking his brother Nick to the San Diego Padres’ game where Roseanne Barr “sang” the National Anthem.

John was present for some good sports events. In 2002, John witnessed a rare triple play at the Ballpark. He was also present at Game 5 of the World Series when Napoli doubled and the stadium was the loudest it had ever been.

We’ve also had brushes with history. Tony was the 1,000,001 DART rider, and he watched the millionth rider get all the awards and prizes. He was also the first driver through the Addison tollbooth. Julie served jury duty with a man who worked for the ATF during the raid on the Branch Davidians in Waco, and he showed he scars from where he’d been shot.
