The Tryptophan Myth

At some point tomorrow some one in your family will probably blame the lethargy that seems to be going around on an amino acid tryptophan that is present in Turkey. Now thanks to Jack you can tell them that they are actually tired because of all that food they just stuffed down their throat.

As RiskBites points out in the above video, your sleepy because your body is working hard a digesting that Thanksgiving dinner.

As much as 50 percent of your blood can be diverted to the small intestine to help maximize the absorption of calories and nutrients. This leaves less blood available for physical activity.

So this Thanksgiving give tryptophan a break.
