As of right now you have to have at least two people in your car to hop onto the HOV lane in the DFW area, but according to WFAA that could all be changing.
New highways are being built with tolled carpool lanes that will encourage three or more passengers.
The new lanes will discount tools for three or more passengers, more expensive for two passengers, and most expensive for only the driver. The current free lanes will connect to the ones that are charging.
“And we’re trying to figure out what’s in the best interest of the traveler,” said Michael Morris, Director of Transportation for the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG). “Whatever we do, we’re going to be criticized, because it’s a complicated system.”
