TMZ is reporting that Kate Middleton and Prince William have decided to take action against a French tabloid that has published topless photos of the future Queen of England. The Royal couple has filed a lawsuit today against the magazine, Closer.
Here is the statement from the Royal Family:
“Their royal highnesses have been hugely saddened to learn that a French publication and a photographer have invaded their privacy in such a grotesque and totally unjustifiable manner, The incident is reminiscent of the worst excesses of the press and paparazzi during the life of Diana, Princess of Wales, and all the more upsetting to the Duke and Duchess for being so. Their royal highnesses had every expectation of privacy in the remote house. It is unthinkable that anyone should take such photographs, let alone publish them. Officials acting on behalf of their royal highnesses are consulting with lawyers to consider what options may be available to the Duke and Duchess. The Duke and Duchess remain focused currently on their tour of Singapore, Malaysia, Solomon Islands and Tuvalu on behalf of the Queen.”
For the magazine’s part — Closer’s editor Laurence Pieau has spoken out, calling the media “hypocritical” for condemning her decision to run the pictures.
British newspapers were offered the photos last week, but turned them down.
“Royal officials say they accept the photos are genuine and the couple are furious,” the BBC‘s royal correspondence.
“They believe a “red line” has been crossed. The couple cannot believe someone would take such photos and publish them.”
The pair are currently on a royal tour of Singapore as part of the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations.
