Powerball Tickets Doubling In Price

Get ready to start shelling out more money to pay for those Powerball Tickets. The prices are doubling from $1 to $2.

Lottery organizers are hoping to entice more people to play because jackpots are getting bigger and the odds of winning are improving.

They decided on the price increase to try and differentiate the drawing from the Mega Millions, another big-money, multi-state lottery game that sells for $1 a ticket. Both lotteries are sold in 42 U.S. states, including Texas, and both have drawings twice a week, on different nights. So you can see where the confusion might come into play.

Lottery officials say that players will like the variety and changes made in the game.

But some players say the price increase may keep them from playing as often or not at all. The price increase takes place on January 15th, 2012.

It’s hard to imagine how anyone could need a larger Powerball jackpot than we already have, these changes seem more likely to just push more cash strapped players onto the Mega Millions.
