We’ve made the rounds from Gene & Julie and Julie DeHarty, and now it is David Rancken’s turn to share the 3 songs that made a difference in his life.
1. “Suppertime” from You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown
David has always loved performing as a child. He joined the choir in elementary school, and at age 9, he played Snoopy during the school’s performance of You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown. He’s otherwise shy in person, but under the cover of costume, he came broke free & had fun dancing around.
2. “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Andy Williams[/lastfm]
Christmas is David’s favorite time of year, and this is his favorite Christmas song. He will play this song in May as a pick-me-up. It really is the most wonderful time of year, and a time full of miracles, at that. From the miracle of the oil celebrated by Hanukkah to the miracle the baby Jesus celebrated at Christmas; it’s the best time of year.
3. “Here With Me” by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Mercy Me[/lastfm]
David’s faith is very important to him. He is the only Christian in his family. In his small town, he was looking for friends to hang out with, and he was invited to an all-night bowling party. It snowed that night, and all the kids were stuck in the church. David made friends that night, and he also found his faith at the age of 16. He became so involved with the youth group activities, his mom has him cut back because she was afraid he’d joined a cult, a Methodist youth group cult. In all seriousness, this Mercy Me song stands out to David because of the line that says, “I surrender to your grace, I surrender to the one who took my place.”
